When the body moves without effort, life finds new paths.

A somatic method of conscious movement that regulates the nervous system, releases deep tension, and reconnects you with your body's natural intelligence.

Non-Linear Movement Method®

What many people experience

Many people live disconnected from their bodies, caught in patterns of tension, excessive effort, and control. Even when practicing exercise, meditation, or therapy, they feel that something remains agitated, blocked, or disconnected inside.

In addition, we all carry emotional storylines and difficult experiences through life. When those experiences cannot be fully felt and integrated in the moment they happen, the body finds ways to encapsulate the impact in order to keep functioning. Those experiences — often called trauma — stay stored in the body along with the vital energy needed to keep them contained. Over time, that held energy affects the nervous system, vitality, pleasure, creativity, and how we relate to life.

What is NLMM®

The Non-Linear Movement Method® is a somatic movement method created by Michaela Boehm, based on the body's natural intelligence, the pleasure of movement, and nervous system self-regulation. It is not about performing correct movements — it is about giving space for the body to express, reorganize, and self-regulate.

Every time you hold any uncomfortable sensation in the body, with awareness, without judgment, and with acceptance, a movement toward self-healing will happen. EVERY TIME.Caroline Migliavacca

The natural cycle of the nervous system

The nervous system works in natural cycles of activation → expression → discharge → rest. When an intense experience happens and that cycle cannot complete, the energy mobilized to deal with the situation gets stuck in the body.

  • Freeze
  • Hyperactivation
  • Body disconnection
  • Chronic tension

The energy remains "on hold," waiting for a safe environment where it can be discharged and integrated.

Non-linear, continuous, conscious movement allows the body to:

  • Resume that interrupted cycle
  • Express what could not be expressed
  • Discharge accumulated energy
  • Return to natural regulation and flow

Self-healing happens when movement finds space to happen.

Benefits of NLMM®

  • Nervous system regulation
  • Reduction of stress and bodily tension
  • More inner safety and emotional self-regulation
  • Increase in vitality, pleasure, and presence
  • Release of holding and rigidity patterns
  • Greater body awareness
  • Support for therapeutic and self-knowledge processes

How the practices work

Practices happen with continuous music, inviting the body to stay in fluid movement. You are guided to listen to inner impulses, allow the body to take the forms that emerge, and hold sensations with presence and curiosity. There are no models to follow.

What you need to participate

  • A space where you can move with safety and privacy
  • Comfortable clothes
  • Internet connection (for online classes)
  • Willingness to listen to the body and let go of excessive control

The method respects different bodies, ages, and physical conditions.

Who NLMM® is for

For those who feel disconnected from the body, live with stress or tension, want to regulate the nervous system naturally, seek deep somatic practices, or want more pleasure and vitality. No prior dance or movement experience is needed.

Non-linear movement helps the body move out of states of hyperactivation, freeze, or dissociation, favoring self-regulation and integration. The body finds safety in conscious movement, not in rigid control.
